Molly McHugh’s Irish Pub, which is family-owned and operated, is a cozy hometown watering hole. They’ve been closed since March, but they opened a few weeks ago for curbside growlers to go. If you need a Guinness fix, stop by daily, 3pm-7pm.
How long has your business been open? Did you own/manage other businesses before this one?
We have been open for 24 years. Molly’s has been owned and operated by the McHugh family since opening.
What inspired your family to open their business in Lakeland?
Gerry McHugh came to Lakeland and fell in love. He saw the potential of downtown!
If your business is family-owned or operated, can you tell us what that’s like? What roles do your family members fill in your business?
When Molly’s first opened it was ran by Molly and Gerry McHugh. Since Gerry’s passing Molly has ran the pub. Recently youngest son Jack moved back to help Molly run the pub, with the intentions of Jack taking over the pub.
Why did you decide to open your business in Downtown Lakeland? Do you have a special connection to the area? To Lakeland in general?
There is an old Irish saying that the people are what make a great pub, after meeting the people of Lakeland Gerry and Molly knew that this was the place for their pub!
What’s your favorite item, product, or service that you offer, and why?
GUINNESS!!!! Just like back home!
When you think about your business, what makes you feel the most proud? What challenges or difficulties have you had to overcome in your personal life or in your business to get to where you are today?
Gerry McHugh came from humble roots as a farmer on the West of Ireland. Through a strong work ethic and a lot of determination, he and his wife Molly built a beautiful pub!
What changes have you made to your business or how have you adjusted your business during this pandemic?
We are selling a variety of to go options including draft beer growlers, bottled wine and liquor! We are offering this curbside service from 3-7 daily.
What is the most important thing for the community to know about your business right now? What’s the best way they can support you?
Simply stopping by to say hi and maybe buy a growler! One of the most challenging things for us during this time is not seeing our customers! We have developed some great friendships with the people of Lakeland over the past 24 years and would love to see their smiling faces!
