Back by popular demand! Music Munndays return in March 2020, bringing live music to Downtown Lakeland’s Munn Park during lunch hours on four consecutive Mondays. Lakeland Downtown Development Authority and the City of Lakeland partner to present the free concerts and offer yet another fun experience for people to enjoy Downtown.
Music Munndays began in February 2016 with an eight-week series of performances in the park as a partnership between LDDA and the Imperial Symphony Orchestra. LDDA Executive Director Julie Townsend said the concerts were a resounding success, which made it easy to bring back the event for the fall in 2016 and continue in the spring and fall of 2017 and 2018. But attendance started to slip, so the event was dropped in 2019.
“We thought perhaps if we took a break folks would miss it – and they did,” said Townsend. “So it’s back, and we hope to see even more folks fill the park than in years past.”
The event’s original goal was to draw people out of their offices to enjoy a picnic lunch on their lunch breaks. But the organizers were pleasantly surprised to find that parents and their young children, professionals who work from home, and retirees came to the park with chairs and blankets. Rather than just spend their lunch hour, many stayed for the full two hours.
We want folks to grab a “to go” lunch from one of our restaurants and join us in the park. Many restaurants will be offering specific Music Munnday “to go” specials. Customers who participate will get a chance to win a $20 Downtown Gift Card. Just buy your lunch, show us your receipt with today’s date, and get your entry to win. We will pick the winner at the end of each Music Munnday concert.
