This is the absolute BEST time of year to explore Downtown Lakeland.
The weather is beautiful, and there are so many things to see — like the many outdoor public art pieces displayed throughout Downtown.
To enhance every visitor’s experience, we’ve created a virtual tour (that is still under construction) on the Otocast App. But you’ll get a sneak peek if you play along with our St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt and use the Otocast App (FREE in the APP STORE). The Otocast App has the virtual tour of Downtown Lakeland’s public art.
Here’s how it works.
The scavenger Hunt goes live on March 10 through March 17.
Text HUNT to 855.298.5275. (This is Downtown Lakeland’s text message service, and the instrument we will use to run the game. You’ll get a text message back with your first set of instructions on how to play.)
Use the clues in the text message to find the first location. Each time you successfully find a location from the clues, you’ll be instructed via text how to get the next set of clues by texting a specific keyword. Once you’ve completed the game, you’ll receive information on how to confirm your participation in the Scavenger Hunt, receive your $2 worth of Market Bucks and enter the drawing for the “Pot of Gold*”. (*”pot of Gold” is $200 worth of Farmers Market Bucks)
The Scavenger Hunt is FREE to participate, and you don’t have to complete it in one day. The first clue will be release on March 10 and you’ll have ’til March 17th to finish. If you play from start to finish it will take about 2 hours to complete. You can play alone or with friends, but to be eligible for the Market Bucks and an entry into the drawing, each participant must play with his/her own phone number. A “participant” is defined as a unique phone number who has joined the text group by texting HUNT to 855.298.5275 and competes the game.
All of the 10 locations in the game are public art pieces within Downtown. The clues in the game help you find each piece of art. The Otocast app is FREE to Download from your app store and has the names, descriptions and locations of the outdoor art with audio and photos to enhance your experience. The app is not required to play the game, but it will help decipher some of the clues given to help you find your next location in the game.
Please be aware that the text messaging system only allows 10 texts per 24 hour period per phone number. If you run out of guesses, you have to wait 24 hrs. before you can play again–or have a friend help you and use their phone for texting guesses.
